Charlotte Russe Open Stitch Colorblock Sweater...Retail Price: $26.99

Photobucket

I love both of these geometric color block sweaters from Alexander Wang and Charlotte Russe. However, I personally think the pastel color color block knit sweater from Charlotte Russe is adorable and you can't beat that price. Of course we would all love to own the Alexander Wang sweater but that price is ridiculous. Charlotte Russe also has this sweater in a black and royal blue combo that you must check out. Let's face it ladies not all of us are made of money, so I always like to save some dollars and get more clothes instead.

Which sweater do you like?

My Best Friend's Bridal Shower

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Untitled

Planning events is definitely hard work! Planning my best friend of 29 years bridal shower was awesome. I cannot tell you how happy I am for my best gal pal, Debbie (the girl in the navy dress and brown hair) and how much I love her.

Debbie's mom and I picked out the beautiful flowers in the centerpieces and we went with a pastel mint green/pink/yellow theme. I think it turned out lovely and adore the matching mint green napkins on the table. For our favors we put mint nonpareils in a custom wine glass for Debbie's shower which went over really well. She is 100% Irish so of course we did the clauddagh on the cake with a beautiful saying that I found, "May your hands be forever clasped in friendship and your hearts joined forever in love." I found an adorable paper heart garland that we decorated the prize table with from hoop-da-loop on Etsy and the super cute mint green clothes pins from KazuOnline on Etsy as well. Both of these shops have the cutest garland, decorations, gift tags and more. The invitations are from Wedding Paper Divas who always do a fantastic job! I have been in a few weddings/showers now and this place is fast and the invitations always come out beautiful.

Hope you enjoyed these photos from the shower! The wedding is this weekend in Philly and is going to be an amazing time! Pictures to follow! Everyone have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Empower Yourself with Fashion

Photobucket

Today on my blog I wanted to talk about a very important topic: Cancer. Jackie Clark, a research assistant for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, reached out to me to ask if she could do a guest post about Mesothelioma Cancer. She has her own blog where she writes positive articles for women with cancer so they can stay strong and feel beautiful. So naturally I wanted her to share her thoughts with us. She also told me that this hits close to home for her because her father died of lung cancer and she had many friends/family that had cancer but were survivors! Please read this beautiful article she wrote for my blog to share with all of us. :)

Empower Yourself with Fashion
By: Jackie Clark

Fashion has been around since the beginning of time. Women have always used fashion as a way to express their individuality and their personality. We still use fashion today, although it might seem to be on a larger scale since we have fashion magazine, fashion shows and runways.

Fashion is a powerful tool that can help a woman feel confident and beautiful no matter what her circumstances may be. Women with a cancer diagnosis like mesothelioma might be tempted to fall into depression. They might be tempted to neglect fashion and how they look due to their depression. However, even women whose doctors diagnosed them with a cancer should strive to employ the power of fashion. There are so many fashion tools available to us that it would be a shame not to take advantage of them.

Whatever your favorite type of fashion is, focus on that first. For instance, if you’re a purse girl, treat yourself to a new purse. If you adore shoes, go shopping for a new pair of pumps. If you simply love dresses, browse the latest dress trends. And even if you can’t afford to actually buy a new wardrobe right now, just get what you can afford, whatever will make you feel better about yourself. If you don’t really want to purchase anything right now, then simply go window shopping. Just getting out of the house and looking at the latest fashion trends will help get you motivated.

How you look can completely the alter the way you feel. It can give you more energy for the day and put you in a more optimistic, lighter more. For example, if you attire yourself in a smart business suit, some flashy pumps and have a set of perfectly manicured nails, you’ll feel much more excited about tackling that work day at the office simply because you look so good and want to show off your look. You’ll feel better about yourself and more willing to tackle any challenge that comes across you that day with a smile.

If you style your hair in an elegant chiffon, don your little black dress, put on some smoky eye shadow and red lipstick and paint your nails a crimson red, you’ll feel a lot more excited about going out for a night on the town. You’ll feel more sexy and alluring, and who knows whom you could meet?

The key to utilizing fashion is to set your own tone and mood. Select styles that you are comfortable with wearing and that make you feel good about yourself. After all, that’s what fashion is all about, making you look and feel good.

How inspiring is this article! I also adore this illustration by Julia Ordodi that Jackie also posted on her blog.  It inspires me to live life to the fullest everyday, and I hope this post inspired all of you! I don't think I can say much as Jackie covered everything I would want to say so eloquently.

Thank you Jackie!

Makeup Shoot with Wesley Purcell

I had the pleasure of working with a talented makeup artist, Wesley Purcell for this shoot. I wanted to do a shoot that showcased makeup and not the clothes for once. I also wanted to do a bold color, something that I don't normally wear. So I thought this bright blue color that she picked was perfect! I wanted the color to stand out so I wore a simple black blazer and dark jeans to let the makeup shine instead. To achieve this bold blue color Wesley used a few different shades of blue including the following:

MAC Birds & Berries (Teal)
MAC Deep Truth (Dark Blue)
MAC Carbon (Black)

However, first things first! She first lined my lids using MAC paint pot (painterly) and lined my brows. For eyeliner she used MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack on the top lid and MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder on the lower lash line to create the smokey effect, and MAC Zoomlash in Zoomblack for my mascara. She then used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium for my powder which was very light feeling on my skin. I love when powder foundation goes on light and airy.

Finally, she finished off my look with a limited edition MAC bronzer, but you can use Refined Golden which looks very similar. She put a touch of MAC Trace Gold blush on my cheekbones and then applied some Lustreglass gloss in Instant Gold to polish the look. It honestly didn't seem that hard to achieve this color if you just make sure to pack on enough eye shadow to get that bold color. Wesley said to just keep packing the color on to really make it pop.

It was definitely a fun day for the both of us and I got quite the makeup lesson. She is super talented, funny, very nice, and knows a ton about makeup! The most important thing was that I felt very pretty when she was all done. :)

Here is a little bit more about Wesley Purcell:

She has always had a passion for makeup as long as she can remember. As a little girl she would put makeup on her dolls and as she grew into an adolescent she convinced her friends to let her practice on them. What she loved most about makeup was that it has the ability to transform and can accentuate a person's natural beauty and boost confidence.

She got her career started by interning for a respected Baltimore based photographer named Roy Cox, where she had the opportunity to work under a number of talented makeup artists. She then went to work for MAC Cosmetics and now freelances for MAC and independently as well. She is based in the Philadelphia area and is available for print, photography, weddings, events, and TV/film.

Be sure to "like" Wesley's Facebook Page to look at her other talented work!

Thanks so much to Wesley for spending the day with me and schooling me in makeup. ;)

Peace & Hugs,
Amy xoxo
